Self localization in virtual environments using visual angles

Abstract: This work analyzes judgments of self localization in immersive virtual environments. A sparse environment was created and a set of localization tasks requiring that angle estimates be made to three landmarks was presented to two sets of subjects, one given feedback and one not. Results were compared to experiments in robot navigation as well as real world perceptual experiments. Feedback improved performance as did the configuration of the landmarks use for a task.
