Abstract: MetNetVR combines graph layouts in 3D space, computer graphics, and VR technologies for interactive visualization of high dimensional metabolic networks. This paper highlights the use of hierarchical visualization that captures the hierarchical relationships in metabolic networks and the use of detail-on-demand interactions to help users understand both the global relationships and local details of a large network simultaneously. Complex interactions are enabled by MetNetVR Tweek, an auxiliary 2D GUI program which communicates with MetNetVR in real time. These interactions control graph theoretic operations, layout management, and visual metaphors.
