Abstract: Funneling is a technique for eliciting a phantom vibro-tactile feedback. It can be used to minimize the number of vibrators (on the interaction device) in contact with the user body and thereby build a less cumbersome and expensive feedback device. Recently, this technique has been found to elicit an "out of the body" experience, i.e. feeling the phantom sensation indirectly from a hand-held object (external to the body). In this paper, we have extended and applied the "out of the body" tactile illusion to a real world 2D interactive application and showed that it can improve the user experience for small additional cost (fewer vibrators), compared to the conventional single vibrator based device.
