Abstract: A comparative, empirical study of the computational performance of multithreading strategies for Marching Cubes isosurface extraction is presented. Several representative data-centric strategies are considered. Focus is on in-core computation that can be performed on desktop (single- or dual-CPU) computers. The study's empirical results are analyzed on the metrics of initialization overhead, individual surface extraction time, and total run time. In addition, an analysis of cache behavior and memory storage requirements is presented.
